The Artist
Inessa Burnell is a character artist and illustrator specializing in stylized portraits with a subtle comic influence. Drawing inspiration from fantasy, games, and anime, she brings emotion, movement, and storytelling into every piece.
Working primarily in digital art—with additional experience in watercolor, acrylic, and clay—Inessa gravitates toward illustrating women, drawn to the expressive possibilities of fashion, flowing garments, and dynamic hair.
Her goal is simple: to bring her clients’ ideas to life with artwork that feels alive, intentional, and full of narrative energy.
The Story
Inessa Burnell’s artistic journey began the way many creative lives do: with a handful of markers and a quiet moment of possibility. One of her earliest memories is sitting beside her father during Take Your Kid to Work Day, drawing with Sharpies while he worked on HVAC systems. That small act—paper, color, imagination—sparked something that never really left.
Throughout childhood, art was her constant companion. But like many artists, life took her down a different path for a while. She pursued a degree in Food Science, setting her creativity aside until a major move and the stillness of the COVID era opened a door she hadn’t expected. In that pause, she returned to illustration with a clarity she hadn’t felt before.
What began as a rediscovery quickly became a career. Inessa worked as a commission artist for several years before joining a local art gallery, where she eventually became Gallery Director. The experience deepened her understanding of storytelling, presentation, and the emotional impact of visual art. Today, she continues to create illustrations both professionally and as a personal passion, balancing client work with the joy of drawing for herself.
Her style is shaped by the worlds she loves—fantasy, games, anime, and the expressive language of fashion. She gravitates toward drawing women, captivated by the movement of fabric, the flow of hair, and the way a single pose can hold an entire story. Whether she’s working digitally or experimenting with watercolor, acrylic, or clay, her focus remains the same: emotion and momentum.
Outside of art, Inessa is an avid gamer and lifelong singer, having spent her youth in choirs, choruses, and musicals. These influences—rhythm, character, world‑building—quietly weave themselves into her illustrations.
At the heart of her work is a simple intention: to create art that feels alive. She wants her clients to see their ideas reflected with care, personality, and narrative depth—art that doesn’t just depict a character, but tells their story.
